A surprising Tweet and How I found Les Mis: Guest Post from Eva!

Hey guys!
So, you will never believe how excited I am at this moment. Alistair Brammer just tweeted me back. Yes, I am freaking out! He was one of my favorite characters in the Movie and he portrayed Jehan so amazingly!
It made me soooo happy!

But anyway, enough about me!

I have the third guest post for my series 'How I found Les Mis'! I hope you all enjoy! This blog post is from Eva who blogs at Ramblings of a Janeite!

Hi, everyone!  My name is Eva and I'm really happy to be on Sydney's blog today talking about how I discovered the wonderful world of Les Miserables.  I've been a fan for almost a year now and I entered the fandom a few months ago.  It's been a wild ride and I'm thankful for every minute of it.  Anyway, here's my story...

I think I always knew of Les Mis – my mom had gone to see it live when she was younger and she had read the book and occasionally she would talk about it.  I remember when Susan Boyle's version of I Dreamed A Dream became so famous 'cause my mom watched the video several times – I wasn't that interested though.  When I was really young (seven or eight), I checked out a children's adaption of the brick (I now have the same adaption on my Kindle – it's very nostalgic for me).  All I can remember about the experience of reading it is that the big impression I got was that it was about this old man and his daughter always running away from the police.  And I really liked it.

Fast-forward several years (to 2012).  I tried reading the brick once 'cause we had a really beat up Norman Denny translation of one of our shelves and the description on the back intrigued me.  But, like many others before me, I got bogged down on the chapters about the bishop and since I didn't know what to skip and what to read, I gave up.  Around this time, I started to hear more about the musical around the blogosphere and I was very interested.  However, it wasn't until two of my bloggy friends published a series of posts that compared the 10th and 25th concerts together, that I decided to watch one of the concerts on Youtube.

I found the 10th on Youtube, begged my mom to let us watch it (she reluctantly agreed) and we sat down and started it.  Most of the plot went over my head but I loved it – a lot.  I cried the hardest I had ever cried for any movie (or musical), especially during A Little Fall Of Rain and the final battle.  I had a huge crush on Enjolras right from the start, you see.  It was amazing.  And what was even more amazing is that I really discovered Les Mis on June 6th (and if you don't know why that's significant, you shouldn't call yourself a fan...)  I watched the concert again the next day and I was hooked.

Then I read the brick and watched the 25th and there was absolutely no turning back.  To date I have watched both concerts several times, read the brick countless times, seen the movie twice and there's no sign of my obsession decreasing :)

  2. That is so exciting to get a reply to your tweet to the actor! I think if it were to happen to me I would frame it and hang it on my wall.

It was fun, Eva, reading about how you learned of Les Miserables. You also made me want to find an abridged version of the brick to read as I can never seen to get through the unabridged.
