It's official, I'm obsessed with Les Miserables....I had a feel I was before but today I confirmed my suspicions. I was at the bookstore today, I had $30 dollars burning a hole in my pocket. And then I see three copies (All of them had different covers) and I wanted to buy *another* copy so badly! It took every bit of willpower not to buy one (or all) of them. I already have one paperback copy and one kindle version. Still, I wanted to buy those books! So know I know, I'm obsessed with Les Miserables and guess what? I am OK with that. In fact, I'm extatic over the fact that I'm obsessed. It's such a great book/musical/movie. I had this kid in school the other day say to me, "Why are you so obsessed with that movie?" And I replied, "Oh, it's much more than just a movie....." He just kinda shook his head.
I love being involved in this fandom!!!
I can't wait for Monday! Deluxe Soundtrack!!! YAY!

Ah, I'm so proud of you, m'dear :) Welcome to the ranks of the fandom...Now, long comments are not my forte so...the Norman Denny translation is the best but the Julie Rose is a close second. But if you're thinking of buying another copy, I'd def recommend ND because the JR one has a fair bit of swearing in it.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought I was in the fandom, but now I realize I've just started (Only been a Les Mis fan since October...I think. I can't remember NOT being a part of the fandom!) I love the Norman Denny translation! I'm glad I read that translation first!
DeleteI love, love, love the Julie Rose translation which was the first translation I ever read however I have also quickly grown to love the Norman Denny translation as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to look for the Julie Rose translation! My first translation was the Norman Denny translation (That's the one they used for the 'film version' of the book {The book with the movie Cosette on the front!}) I'm currently reading the Kindle edition but I don't like it as much!
DeleteDefinitely get the Julie Rose translation even though, like Eva said there is a bit more swearing in it, the translation is still very beautiful. Another translation I've read and absolutely loved was the MacAfee & Fahnestock translations. The way they translated Enjolras "We die with the coming dawn" speech was beautiful. It's a good one to buy too.
